NARING AND NUMURKAH ROAD – INTERSECTION REALIGNMENT

When: 2022-23

Client: Moira Shire Council

Project Value: $720,000

Overview:  The intersection of Naring Road and Numurkah/Tocumwal Roads Numurkah has been the scene of many vehicle accidents and near misses over the years.

The Moira Shire Council has allocated substantial funding to Capital Works projects throughout their region, and BPS is assisting the Shire in delivering this project.

Works include:

Our role: The existing intersection also causes issues for trucks travelling west on Naring Road waiting for trains and having their trailers hang over Numurkah Road, or travelling east and having their trailers block the rail line while waiting at the intersection with Numurkah Road.

The project involves realigning Numurkah Road on the north side of Naring Road so that it intersects to the east of the substation on the south side of Naring Road.  Having the intersection opposite the substation has the associated risk of a vehicle approaching from the north crashing into the facility should for any reason they fail to stop.

Naring Road now becomes the ‘through’ road and will be treated in similar manner to other sealed roads that cross active railway lines with the speed reduced to 80kph.  The Numurkah Road approaches will be governed by either stop or give way signs depending upon the sight distance and the warrants for the two signs.

The intersection will be designed to suit the High Performance Vehicles (freight) that are currently or proposed to operate from the Booths transport depot or service the businesses in the Katunga area.

This project will be jointly funded by Council and the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery Program.

With the ability to seamlessly integrate into the Shire’s existing systems and processes, BPS is providing civil engineering support within the Shire’s Construction and Assets Team.
